SusanI figured out a way to trick the system into doing this, by accident; but it seems to work, and I carried it over from the web app to the mac app...
- Copy an image, so it's on your clipboard
- Go to Google Docs, and open a new document
- Type a character or two (I was just typing "aa") then hit enter
- Paste in your photo from the clipboard
- Type another aa and hit enter
- Click control (or command)-A to "select all", then control-C to copy
- Open a new Note in Dabble
- Click control-V 2 paste -

Jacob from Dabble AdminThis works, but the image is stored on the web somewhere, so it won't show up offline, and if it is deleted from wherever it is at you won't have it in your story anymore. This ticket will be for storing the image on our servers and caching it on your computer for offline use too.

HannahI love the idea of being able to add images: it would be really helpful for maps/layouts/planetary alignments etc. Plus as a visual person being able to upload my scribbles & timelines so that it'll all be stored in one place would make the process a lot less painful.

VioletCan I also suggest images in stories themselves too, not just notes? Or does that need to be separate? I'd love the ability to use custom images for, say, scene dividers and chapter headings.

Jacob from Dabble AdminI think that's a good idea.

Chet SandbergWould there have to be limits, though? Image hosting could add up over time. I'm all for it, of course. I really want images for my characters in a better character sheet.

ClaireThe image hosting is what would concern me tbh. I mean, over time it might push the price up. So perhaps have this capability just for the offline app, since we can easily host the images on our PC without overloading Dabble? Just a thought. I really want images in plotting at least so I can have "character sheets". Am old skool RPGer, haha.

Jacob from Dabble AdminStorage space has become much more affordable these days. We can also put into place throttles for maximum image sizes, place limits on the amount of storage an account can use, and archive images to even cheaper slow storage for old accounts. I don't believe image storage will increase the price of the subscription. The server and database costs are much higher (especially when including maintenance time and developer attention).

Marvelous NatureIt would be really helpful. Sometimes, stories can really be enhanced by illustrations, and helps the reader visualize the scene.

Rin PondI'd love to be able to have images for my settings or characters available within the app.

Isabelle P.As another note, I think it would be lovely to upload potential Book Covers to identify the book with when you're looking at your projects. Perhaps with a toggle so you could either see the photo you've chosen, or what you can see now (the title, subtitle, and Author's name).

ShdwfriendCould you do both methods?
1) Short Term: Be able to click on/ hover to pull up image from another URL
2) LongTerm: store image on this site's servers.
I do see the need for cover images and avatar images to be stored on this site. -

Peta webbI already have the cover for my novel done, and it would be great to see it each time I open up the project for more motivation when the writing mojo isn't where it should be.

Chi ObasiHaving the ability to add images to my character docs is vital for me, this would be a super helpful feature. As is, I have to go back to images saved on my computer to remember what minor characters look like - I'm not necessarily a huge visual thinker so for me reference pictures are huge for my visual realism, easier for me to keep track when I can take a quick glance at a reference and then work off of that.

JohnBredesenHaving images in the manuscript itself would be useful for non-fiction. I have a not-fun system of naming with a set of graphs and diagrams kept elsewhere. Each time I want to print or share a draft, I have to export it to word and then go through and insert all the images. Having images in the manuscripts brings up all the issues of text flow, etc. but keeping it simple with only one or two options would be helpful.

Adam WAs a new user as of today, trying to paste an image was pretty much the second thing I did after testing the typing.

TamaraI would definitely love to be able to add setting and character images as I visually cast my characters and am a very visual writer in general when making notes.

Elena M.It seems this idea was first explored over three years ago and still, we don't have the option. Is this anything we can expect to see soon, as in a timeline under 36 months?

ThirstyBardJust started the free trial. The intro video shows line art on their characters. It also looks like you can even attach notecards to different countries on a map. Visual representation of data is HUGE for anybody writing in the fantasy genre.
I really like that there is finally some competition to Scrivener but they have released their Windows version and combined with DropBox you get a ton of storage. -

AnnaIs this not happening anymore??? I just joined and this could be a dealbreaker for me to go back to scrivener...

Shay KenwayDefinitely would like this feature for sure. I like to draw scenes out or scribble up some rough sketches as placeholders or dividers every once in a while. It'd also be lovely to have character templates and timelines in which you can also add the images to. It could serve to show progress for events or characters or anything else needed to represent visuals.

ShannonAs a children's author, being able to add some photos/images would be critical. It's hard to identify placeholders for art/illustrations or see the flow without this feature.

Joyce SandilandsI'm in free trial mode and am particularly interested in the photo feature. I love what I have seen of Dabble so far but am writing a Bio which needs to have a few photos. I have a bit of time to work with so I wonder if it might be possible you will add this feature in the next 6 months? Or perhaps I should learn Scrivener :(
Thanks. -

DayI think it's fine if the image isn't in your servers and just hotlinked or something.

Pamela BradfordI NEED THE ABILITY TO ADD IMAGES, not just in notes but IN ACTUAL MANUSCRIPT. For the purposes of publication, I know that the image needs to be either stored on your servers or retrievable from an external repository. Either way the ability to determine image size and resolution density image placement on the page etc. within your application is essential. I hope this feature is delivered soon because I LOVE your platform but need to be able to include image art and photo.

Amy FowlerImages within the text is crucial for me as my book is non fiction. Currently having to have 2 versions running - one in Word and one in Dabble, which isn't ideal. Otherwise love the software.

JosephIn another app, I have images for my characters along with a character template. It helps me to visualize the story when I think about the story. It would be nice to have an image associated with a character template.
